Goedemiddag,
Exercise 1
R = (ABCDE)
F = {A ! BCDE,C ! A,D ! E}
R1 = (ABC),R2 = (CD),R3 = (DE)
Is this decomposition lossless, 3NF, BCNF, DP?
Give a short explanation for each of the claims.
Exercise 2
R = (ABCD)
F = {AB ! CD}
We are looking for non-trivial functional dependencies X ! Y that can be added to F
such that R is in 3NF, but not in BCNF. Give as many fd’s as you can find with this
property.
Note that we do not intend combined addition of fd’s. For every fd you give, it should
obey the condition above when added on its own to F.
Bij voorbaat dank(y)
